The mystery of the disappearing female armour

It is well known that female armour in most fantasy and sci fi media such as art, comic books, or video games, is seriously lacking in coverage. Unless you take a direct hit to the nipple or crotch you, as a female character, are screwed. Your character though will look implausibly hot but don't worry that vital organs and major arteries are exposed.  Or like this fab chart shows us the bits not covered are just immune to any sort of damage (they aren't).

The World of Warcraft is very guilty of this not just in their advertising art but actual game-play.  Below is a set of about level 54 plate armour worn by paladins and warriors.

That looks good right? (except the shoulders.  I don't know what those are.  They aren't part of the original vanguard set).  He looks like he can take some serious damage.  Wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley..blah blah blah.  Now let's have a look at what some of the female characters look like in the SAME armour.
Here we have a female night elf, human and blood elf all wearing the vanguard set. I think this is self explanatory.  You'd definitely want to meet them in a dark alley if females in skimpy armour is your thing.  I personally would laugh then give them a fireball to the face.
